The Southeast is no stranger to rodeos—you can find barrel racing, team roping and bull riding with ease—but if you’d rather exchange your hat and boots for a knife and fork, then the Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo might be more your style. From May to Oct., the city of Raleigh reserves four days to line 11 city blocks (over a half-mile!) in downtown Raleigh with more than 50 of the best food trucks around. We’re talking wood-fired pizzas, buttery lobster rolls, over-the-top ice cream concoctions, drool-worthy barbecue sandwiches and way, way more. NCMA Outdoor Concert Series: A Special Evening with Kishi Bashi and Jake Shimabukuro
Cat’s Cradle and the NCMA present a Special Evening with Kishi Bashi and Jake Shimabukuro. Classical violinist, Seattle-born Kaoru Ishibashi, has won accolades for also sounding “synthtastic?” After studying film scoring at Berklee College of Music, he toured with Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and Deerhoof. Ishibashi tours as a five-piece band under the pseudonym Kishi Bashi. Accompanying Ishibashi’s lustrous violin are percussion, electric guitar, keyboards, and Mike Savino’s electric, color-changing disco “banjotron.” Check out this unforgettable live show that flows with indie anthems and acoustic numbers. Sir Walter Miler 5K
Sir Walter Running is excited to present the deepest Men’s and Women’s field to date to compete at the 2018 Sir Walter Miler. The 2018 event will again feature Elite Men’s and Women’s Mile races, and a pair of local races: a Run Club Mile, and a Run Club 4×400 meter Relay. Races will start at Meredith College, with the popular Pre and Post party being held at Raleigh Brewing Company (3709 Neil St, Raleigh, NC 27607), where Bo’s Kitchen will be on hand, serving up Korean Street Food. Umstead 100 finisher and Raleigh Brewing Co. sales guy, Les Abbott, has collaborated with the brewing team to create the “Sir Sandman Kolsch” for the event, and Wicked Weed Brewing has again brewed an exclusive as well. The “Run for El Dorado” Pale Ale is a play on Sir Walter Raleigh’s El Dorado (City of Gold) Expedition, and the El Dorado hop, which the beer is built around, will be available at the Pre and Post party, as well as around town at local bottle shops, including the Sir Walter “Extra Miler” at Tasty Beverage on Saturday afternoon. All proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund,  a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to the fight against women’s cancers.
