Freedom Balloon Fest
This family-friendly, truly-unique event runs throughout Memorial Day Weekend at Fuquay-Varina’s Fleming Loop Park. Enjoy dozens of hot air balloons as they fill the skies in honor and remembrance of those have served in the military. There will be tons of live music, an arts and crafts village and food vendors. Mountain Sports Festival
The festival showcases the terrain, environment, and unique culture of Asheville, NC and the surrounding mountains. Check out an amazing array of musical talent, local beer, cider, and food vendors. Free; Friday-Sunday; 220 Amboy Rd, Asheville, NC 28806

Triangle Wind Ensemble’s American Celebration: Salute to the Cinema
Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre will host Triangle Wind Ensemble’s American Celebration: Salute to the Cinema, featuring a musical salute to veterans, plus music by James Horner (The Perfect Storm), Bill Conti (Rocky), John Williams (E.T.Star Wars) and some favorites from Disney films. Gates open at 6pm, and picnics are encouraged! Food and beverages will also be available for purchase on-site. Sunday, 7 pm; 8003 Regency Pkwy, Cary, NC 27518

Bond Park Adventure Day

They will be screening No Time for Sergeants this Memorial Day weekend. Saturday, 7 pm; 2 E. Chatham St, Cary, NC 27511

Outlaw Music Festival
Willie Nelson, Sturgill Simpson, Alison Krauss and Delta Rae are among the headliners of the Outlaw Music Festival Tour, which will hit Raleigh this weekend. $35+; Friday; Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, NC

Oak City Comedy Festival
Raleigh’s First comedy Festival starts the weekend with uncontrollable laughter. This five-day comedy celebration features some of the hottest up-and-coming stand up comics and improv/sketch comedy groups. Through Saturday; locations here.

NC Sugar Rush
Raleigh’s first all-dessert food truck rodeo, NC Sugar Rush, is taking place in downtown Raleigh. With more than 20 local dessert vendors, this event is packed with all things sweet like Italian ice, cheesecake, doughnuts, cupcakes and more. Sunday, 1 – 5 pm; 200 Block of E.
