I am not one for water sports, but I oddly always wanted to try paddle boarding. I almost signed up in California since I lived right next to the marina, but something about possible falling into water mixed with boat oils didn’t work for me. When my friend in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, mentioned trying it during my visit, I jumped at the chance (and so happy I did). The experience was one of my most favorite things I have done to date.
South Florida Paddle LLC is a mobile paddle board rental company based out on Singer Island and established in 2011 by our instructors, Marissa and Ethan. Being Florida natives from Palm Beach County, Marissa and Ethan have taken classes in marine and coastal science and are certified Master Naturalists through the University of Florida Master Naturalist program. Laid back and friendly, Marissa and Ethan instantly made us feel comfortable and instructed us on how to use the equipment. As set out on our adventure around John D. MacArthur State Park (Munyon Island), they explaining to us on how to handle the wind and the currant, while encouraging us along the way. With infectious positivity and a relaxed vibe, they never made us feel like we couldn’t handle the waters.
They had so much knowledge about the unique ecosystem in Palm Beach County and the animals that lived there. Along our outing we got to see star fish, schools of fish, horseshoe crabs, sting rays, and they took some incredible photos.
Joining South Florida Paddle was a great way to start our day. It’s a relaxing, slow paced way to get into nature and see wildlife you wouldn’t be able to see from the shore. In addition to their ECO tours, you can sign up for full moon, sunset or sunrise paddles and they also offer Night SUP Glow Tours and Peanut Island snorkeling tours. Whichever tour you choose, you won’t be disappointed.
