Head to Sono on Tuesday nights for their new Wine & Sake Social, a delicious and casual educational culinary experience. Chef Hyunwoo Kim will serve complimentary sushi like California, cucumber roll, and avocado roll. Certified Sake Advisor James Yang and his well-trained team will be on-hand to pour tastings of a wide variety of wines and sakes (5-10). Holiday Feasting at Fleming’s
Fleming’s Holiday/New Year’s Eve menu showcases its best in class “Surf & Turf” three-course menu, featuring an 8 oz. Filet Mignon paired with an Australian Lobster Tail served with a sautéed mushroom medley, merlot salt and cabernet demi-glace. The meal begins with a choice of Fleming’s delicious lobster bisque or Seafood Louie Wedge Salad, featuring colossal crabmeat and shrimp. To finish the night on a sweet note, you can select either warm butter cake over a rich chocolate sauce with candied walnuts, Chantilly cream and caramelized Bosc pears, drizzled with caramel sauce or any option from their dinner menu. Fleming’s has also crafted the perfect drink pairings to complement this meal. Sip on a glass of Belle Glos, Las Alturas Santa Lucia Highlands, or enjoy a handcrafted cocktail, like the Merry Berry or High End Old Fashioned. Bittersweet Champagne Class
This holiday season Bittersweet is offering its signature Champagne class that will consist of seven different sparkling wines including a true Champagne. There will be a discussion that covers the process of making sparkling wines and it will also explain the difference between their respective regions. Plus, enjoy three mini sweet treats to tantalize your pallet between sips. Holiday Happy Hour, Food Drive and Film Screenings
VAE is hosting a Holiday Happy Hour to spread some holiday cheer in support of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle! The Holiday Happy Hour will take place at Trophy on Maywood and include a canned food drive also also a special viewing of selected short-films by Vittles Films, exploring how the food we seek and the way we eat it informs our identity, culture and community and examines the contemporary social issues in the South and beyond. Films showcased include: 1. Grace’s One and Only Casseroni: In the summer of 1964, Frank Groce got a new stepmother. A white woman from Kentucky, Grace made a special spinach casserole so Frank could be tough like Popeye in case classmates picked on him for having an interracial family. That same summer, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, outlawing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin. Fifty years later, Frank is putting his life back together. He recreates Grace’s recipe and reflects on the experience. 2. Cook School: will these 18 men be able to pull off a fine-dining experience for 60 volunteers behind the gates of Orange Correctional Center? Graduates of “Cook School,” the only program out of 12 saved by the N.C. Department of Corrections, earn community college credits and employable skills — if they can stand the heat and deliver.
